"It breaks the enchantment, makes visible the invisible." ​I had a girlfriend long ago who voiced sadness at the growth of science, feeling that it removed mystery from life. Scientists disagree, but I feel there is an important point embedded there, relevant today, that it can be tiresome if some body of people you don't like always claim to have all the answers.​

Once knowledge as a part of its object has been separated from knowledge apart from it, it is impossible to reintegrate them, " Some of the most difficult decisions I've faced in life have stemmed from the recognition that I could never go back to something I was, at the time, very attached to. This is also part of what I found difficult about research, that moving in new directions left comforting thoughts and community behind.

I've recently been accepting solitude without loneliness. It seems like a paradox, but living it doesn't.​
